The current live System Breakdown balance is referred to as Medium in official Patch Notes 04. The game carries a Difficult Steam tag. An Easy mode has been officially mentioned on the development agenda, but its exact availability has to be verified in the current build.
This difficulty page keeps the confirmed current balance separate from historical playtest wording and from the not-yet-shipped Easy mode. It does not claim difficulty options that are not verified.
Current Live Difficulty
The game is marketed as brutal and fast-paced, and its Steam user tags include Difficult. Official Patch Notes 04 (August 20, 2026) refer to the current balance as Medium difficulty and note that Patch 04 lowered the amount of traps and minions in the boss fight on Medium.
Patch 04 explicitly names Medium difficulty and balances its boss encounter. That is the current confirmed live reference.
Easy Mode
Patch Notes 04 mention that an Easy mode is on the official agenda. Because that wording is about a planned future addition, this page does not present Easy mode as an available option until it is confirmed in the live build.
Easy mode is officially described as on the development agenda, not as a shipped difficulty option as of Patch 04.
Historical Playtest Wording
Before release, the developer asked players to compare a harder and a more forgiving build through Steam branches (a Hard Mode vs Standard Mode test). That was playtest-era testing, not the current shipped difficulty structure.
Playing the Harder Content
The boss encounter and later trials are where the game's difficulty concentrates. See the Boss Guide for the generator, trap, and minion mechanics, and the Trial 2 page for the difficulty jump in the second trial.
Medium difficulty naming, the Patch 04 balance change, and the Easy mode agenda are sourced from official System Breakdown patch notes.
Whether Easy mode has shipped and the exact numeric values of each difficulty option are not yet verified.
